The Pittsburgh Riverhounds are adding to their roster non-stop. Only a day after exercising an option to keep leading scorer Corey Hertzog for the 2017 season, the Riverhounds signed striker Devaughn Elliott. Elliott, who is from the West Indies island nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, started his career in 2009 with the club Positive Vibes. He didn't record a single cap with the club and wouldn’t record any caps with Village Superstars, where he spent time from 2010-13. However, ... Read More
Panthers bounce back with win over Buffalo
The Pittsburgh Panthers men’s basketball team got a much-needed win over the University of Buffalo Bulls on Wednesday night, especially after Pitt failed to defeat the Duquesne Dukes in the “City Game.” The Panthers beat the Bulls, 84-79. But the game shouldn't have been nearly as close as it was at the end. Pitt once held a 26-point lead, and the team was up 30-6 at one point. At another point, the Panthers were up 47-21 before the Bulls outscored the Panthers 58-37 over the rest of the ... Read More
Riverhounds exercise Hertzog’s contract option for 2017
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds can take a deep breath. The club will have its leading scorer back for the 2017 season. The Riverhounds announced Wednesday they will exercise the 2017 club option on forward Corey Hertzog. Hertzog, who appeared in 30 matches last season for the Riverhounds, scored a total of 13 goals. He also led the team in assists (4), minutes (2,500), points (30) and shots (62). Head coach Dave Brandt praised the efforts of Hertzog from last season and said he was excited ... Read More
Grades: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New York Giants
The Pittsburgh Steelers seemingly have a flair for playing good, strong December football. Kicking off this year’s playoff push, the Steelers defeated the New York Giants, 24-14 on Sunday. Sure, Pittsburgh might have punched the Dallas Cowboys' playoff ticket, but the win helps the Steelers creep up on the Baltimore Ravens for the top spot in the AFC North. While both teams have the same record (7-5), the Ravens currently lead the division based on head-to-head tiebreak. (Baltimore ... Read More
Pitt upset by Duquesne in City Game
Only three days after handing the Maryland Terrapins their first loss of the season, the Pittsburgh Panthers were upset by their local rivals, the Duquesne Dukes, 64-55. Notably absent from the game for Pitt was senior guard Jamel Artis. However, Panthers head coach Kevin Stallings said the guard's absence was only a “one-game thing.” “Hopefully we don’t have to be without him very much,” Stallings said. “He’s a pretty good player, and his numbers speak to that. We have to do as a team ... Read More
Grade: Steelers vs. Colts
The Pittsburgh Steelers raked in their second-straight win, beating the Indianapolis Colts 28-7 on Thanksgiving night. Quarterback: Ben Roethlisberger has been shaky in recent weeks, but, against a depleted Colts secondary, he looked like the MVP of the NFL. Roethlisberger completed 14/20 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns — he didn’t throw a single interception. Late in the fourth quarter, head coach Mike Tomlin decided not to let Roethlisberger embarrass the Colts any longer, so ... Read More
Steelers’ tight ends need to step up against the Colts
The Pittsburgh Steelers are trying to focus on getting back some momentum after their 24-9 win over the Cleveland Browns that quelled Pittsburgh's four-game losing streak. Sunday, the defense looked stellar, and, on offense, running back Le’Veon Bell lit up the Browns' defense for 146 rushing yards — he also had 55 receiving yards. But Bell hasn’t had many 100-plus rushing games this season (he did miss the first the first three games of the season with a drug-related suspension). So, ... Read More
Riverhounds sign Kay Banjo and Shane Campbell
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds continue to expand their roster, announcing Wednesday afternoon that they've signed Kay Banjo and Shane Campbell. Banjo, who holds dual citizenship with the United States and Nigeria, played collegiate level soccer at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Before making his way to UMBC, Banjo played for Towson University. He played all four years for both UMBC and Towson. In the NCAA, he appeared in 65 matches, starting 62 of them. A strikeer, he netted 23 ... Read More
Grades: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland Browns
The Pittsburgh Steelers snapped a four-game losing streak with their 24-9 win Sunday over the Cleveland Browns. Granted, it was the Browns, but, for the Steelers right now, a win's a win. The Steelers are now tied with the Baltimore Ravens at the top of the AFC North with 5-5 records. The Bengals are behind those two teams with a 3-6-1 record, and the Browns are in last place (of both the division and the NFL) with an 0-11 record. The Steelers will have their second away game in a row ... Read More
Even if Steelers beat Browns, Tomlin is still on hot seat
The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently riding a four-game losing streak. On Sunday, they'll look to snap it when they head to FirstEnergy Stadium to face the Cleveland Browns. The Browns, with their 0-10 record, should — on paper — be an easy win for the Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger has handed plenty of losses to the Browns and, earlier this week, he admitted he can’t list all the names of the Cleveland quarterbacks he’s faced. So if Pittsburgh gets a win against the Browns and the Steelers ... Read More
