While the Pittsburgh Steelers may have been prepared to go at it without quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for the next couple of weeks after his foot sprain against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday that may not be the case after all.
Roethlisberger, who was supposed to be in a walking boot all week, is out of the boot already and according to ESPN, is “progressing ahead of schedule.”
That doesn’t mean that Big Ben will be under center on Sunday when the Steelers take on the Cleveland Browns, but it is a positive sign going forward.
Roethlisberger claimed earlier in the week that he wasn’t ruling himself out for this Sunday, but all signs point to Landry Jones getting the start.
Jones completed four of six passes for 79 yards on the Steelers’ last two drives in Sunday’s win over the Raiders, is slated to make his second career start against a Cleveland team that has lost its last four games.
But with a bye week following, Roethlisberger could be ready to return the following week after that against the Seattle Seahawks.
