ATLANTA – The Bucs lost their second straight game, and dropped their second consecutive series in Atlanta tonight by the score of 5-4.
Jeff Locke was on the hill for the Pirates and didn’t have his best stuff. He allowed three runs through 5.2 innings.
He was pulled after 103 pitches for recently called up Ryan Reid who blew the lead almost instantly. Reid allowed a two-run homer to B.J. Upton in the bottom of the sixth which tied the game up at 4-4.
Tony Watson and Jason Grilli each pitched scoreless innings and Mark Melancon had his worst outing of the year as he allowed the winning run to score in the bottom of the tenth.
On the offensive side, Pedro Alvarez (12) and Gaby Sanchez (5) each hit home runs, while Andrew McCutchen contributed a run scoring double.
The Bucs will look to not get swept tomorrow afternoon as Wandy Rodriguez (6-3, 3.47 ERA) will square off with Julio Teheran (3-2, 3.71 ERA) with the first pitch at 12:10 P.M.
