Atlanta – The Pirates wrapped up a tough road series with a 5-0 loss against the Braves. The story of the game was Julio Teheran, who came four outs away from pitching a no-hitter against the Bucs.
Teheran struck out eleven batters and didn’t allow a hit until there were two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Brandon Inge had the lone hit for the Pirates, as he picked up a pinch-hit off of Teheran to end the no-hit bid.
Wandy Rodriguez started for the Pirates, and was removed to the game almost immediately after it started due to an injury. He only registered one out, and was charged with an earned run on two hits. Bryan Morris pitched in relief, and did a good job, as he allowed no hits through 3.2 innings of work. Vin Mazzaro allowed solo home runs to Evan Gattis and Gerald Laird. Jared Hughes had a rough outing, as well, allowing two runs in less than two innings on the mound. Mike Zagurski pitched the eighth and had a 1-2-3 inning.
The Bucs were swept in Atlanta, and have a much needed day off tomorrow. After that, they will open up a three game weekend series against the Chicago Cubs.
