Earlier this morning the Pittsburgh Steelers announced their team captains for the 2015 season as voted by the players.
The four players selected were Ben Roethlisberger (offense) Cam Heyward and William Gay (co-defensive) and Robert Golden (special teams)
The selection of Roethlisberger has become an annual occurrence as he has now been selected as the offensive captain for the fifth consecutive year. Roethlisberger is coming off his best statistical season of his career and will look to lead the Steelers to their second straight AFC North title.
Heyward and Gay were selected as co-captains. Heyward has quickly become one of the most vocal leaders for the Steelers and was the co-leader in sacks last season with 7.5. Gay is regarded as one of the most respected players in the Steelers locker room and had a strong year filling a number of roles in the defensive backfield. All three of Gay’s interceptions were returned for touchdowns last season.
Like Roethlisberger, Golden was voted captain in 2014 and repeats that honor this season for the special teams. A key performer for the unit, Golden has made a name for himself as a reliable leader who has also continued to gained trust as a reserve at safety
