Yesterday, we took a look at some of the best moments and performances by the 2015 Pittsburgh Steelers in our first of two installments of three up, three down. In part two of of the series, let's look at some of the worst of the past season. Three down: *There's little doubt that the secondary was a big issue for the Steelers and it will be a hot-button topic during the off-season. Only the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints gave more yards through the air than the Steelers dismal ... Read More
Steelers claim KR Jacoby Jones off waivers
Desperate for a lift from their special teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers added a former nemesis on Thursday. The team claimed former Baltimore Ravens kick returner Jacoby Jones, who was recently waived by the San Diego Chargers. The nine-year veteran has been a dangerous kick and punt returner in the past. Jones has totaled 10,184 all-purpose yards and 23 touchdowns (14 receiving, five kickoff and four punt return) in 124 regular-season games with 33 starts. Jones was s a third-round ... Read More
Three up, three down: Steelers vs. Bengals
Some losses are worse than others. It's a cliché used often in sports, but the Steelers gut-wrenching 16-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals would have to qualify. Not only did the loss effectively end any hopes of winning the AFC North, the Steelers also got even worse news late last night when it was reported by Steelers Depot that All-Pro running back Le'Veon Bell will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury suffered early in the second quarter yesterday at Heinz Field. So ... Read More
Four things to focus on in Steelers preseason opener
Amid the celebration of the induction of Jerome Bettis in the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend in Canton, the Pittsburgh Steelers will open their preseason on Sunday night against the Minnesota Vikings with kickoff slated for 8 p.m. Though the recurrent theme of putting in quality work without players getting injured during the preseason rarely changes, it does not mean there won't be plenty of things to keep an eye on Sunday night. Add the laundry list of injuries and players ... Read More
Steelers must utilize Dri Archer properly in 2015
When the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Kent State running back Dri Archer in the third round of the 2014 NFL draft, many questioned whether or not the diminutive speedster could make an impact as a pro. As Archer gets ready for his second year with the Steelers, those questions still linger. In fact, the skeptics who were critical of the selection at the time were given plenty of ammunition for their arguments during Archer's rookie campaign. Among the arguments made against picking Archer so ... Read More
Steelers 2014 rookie class off to less than impactful start
Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert has come under fire lately for some less than spectacular results from some of his more recent draft classes. At the end of the day, bad drafts have played a large role in why this franchise has produced back-to-back 8-8 seasons. As soon as this past draft ended, many experts were grading Colbert’s performance either very positively or very negatively, with not much ground in the middle. I for one did not like the past draft at all, but ... Read More
Steelers face tough questions at running back
With Tuesday's release of LeGarrette Blount, the Pittsburgh Steelers now are perilously thin in terms of running back depth behind starter Le'Veon Bell. Only rookie Dri Archer and Josh Harris, who was activated from the practice squad yesterday afternoon, are part of the Steelers active roster. Wednesday's addition of rookie free agent LaDarius Perkins to the practice squad gives the Steelers another body, but is a long shot to do much else. Considering he's a rookie coming off the street and ... Read More
Training camp notes from Latrobe
It was beautiful day at Latrobe yesterday as the rain (for the most part) held off, and the Steelers continued to prepare for their first pre-season game of the 2014 season. The Steelers will travel to New York to play the Giants on Saturday night. Here's some of the some observations I made watching practice yesterday. *Bumped into Carnell Lake before practice began, and Lake just happened to be my favorite player from the 90's teams. I gotta tell you, Mr. Lake looks like he could still play ... Read More
Ryan Shazier, other Steelers rookies off to good starts in camp
For the past couple of seasons, there has been the call for the Pittsburgh Steelers to get younger and more athletic on both sides of the ball. Even though the team only reported to camp on Friday and were in pads and hitting for the first time on Monday, some of the Steelers youth has already begun to open up some eyes. Granted it has only been a couple of days, but some of the players general manager Kevin Colbert drafted in May could make a strong case for a lot of playing time by turning ... Read More
Pittsburgh Steelers Draft Kent State RB Dri Archer with the 97th Overall Pick
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected RB Dri Archer of Kent State with their third round compensatory pick (97th overall). Archer is a versatile running back who ran a 4.26-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, and is considered the best pure return man in the draft. The pick is similar to a selection that offensive coordinator Todd Haley made while head coach of Kansas City when he chose Dexter McCluster of Mississippi. Archer is a 5-foot, 8-inch 173-pound production machine that was ... Read More
