Let me start out by saying this. My views on this are exactly that. They don’t in any way represent Pittsburgh Sporting News as a whole. That being said, if you support James Harrison’s return to the Steelers but were bashing Ray Rice a few weeks ago, you’re inconsistent, and you’re a hypocrite. It’s really as simple as that. How quick we forget what Harrison did to his girlfriend at the time, Beth Tibbot. Yes, the case was dropped and Harrison had to undergo anger management, but ... Read More
Steelers Attempt Rebound in Primetime Matchup at Carolina
With ten days to brush off a lifeless defeat at the hands of the division-rival Baltimore Ravens, the Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1) visit Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium and the Carolina Panthers (2-0) on primetime Sunday Night Football. Pittsburgh lost by a 26-6 score at Baltimore in Week Two in the league's weekly Thursday night game, failing to truly compete with the hosts in an important early-season divisional matchup. The team's focus now turns to the undefeated Panthers and mobile ... Read More
Ray Rice cut by Ravens, Suspended indefinitely by NFL
The Baltimore Ravens have terminated the contract of Ray Rice following the release of "new" video by TMZ showing Rice punching his then fiancee in an elevator at the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. Ravens had no choice but to terminate Ray Rice's contract. Will be a long time, if ever, before another team signs him.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 8, 2014 The NFL also took action Monday suspending Rice "indefinitely". And now the NFL has announced that ... Read More
Steelers cut roster to 75
The Pittsburgh Steelers made 14 cuts today in order to get their roster down to 75 players before the 4 PM deadline. Jordan Hall, RB-- Hall, the local product from Jeannette High School, never really made an impression as a free agent invite to Steelers camp. After a solid but unspectacular career at Ohio State, Hall was a long shot to make the 53 man roster under the best of circumstances. Hall saw very little action in the preseason, and seems to have little to no chance of being placed on ... Read More
Pittsburgh Steelers Show Promising Signs In Preseason Win Over Buffalo
The Pittsburgh Steelers are pinning their revival hopes on a high-flying offense and a rejuvenated defense. After a so-so preseason opener against the Giants last week, the Steelers showed a promising preview of that game plan Saturday night at Heinz Field, controlling the first half in a 19-16 victory over the Buffalo Bills. Pittsburgh's first exhibition win since Aug. 30, 2012 - a span of five games - featured a nearly-flawless Ben Roethlisberger and a dynamic performance from rookie ... Read More
Can Tuitt make an early impact?
Not since Kendrell Bell in 2001 has a rookie defender opened the season as a starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In spite of an knee injury that will keep him out of the Steelers preseason game tomorrow against the New York Giants, first rounder Ryan Shazier looks to be on track to break into the starting lineup immediately. Though second-round pick Stephon Tuitt might not share that honor with Shazier, he might just join him sooner than later. Two rookies starting for the Steelers defense? ... Read More
Fantasy Waiver Wire: Week 8
A lot has happened over the course of the week in the injury category as injuries to big names such as Jermichael Finley, Sam Bradford, Jay Cutler, Doug Martin, Reggie Wayne amd Nick Foles meaning you could be looking for a pickup for week 8 and beyond. There is some hope for you, though as a few possible "key players" are returning. Jarrett Boyken (WR/GB): Boyken recorded 10 catches for 100 yds and a TD last week as he received more looks from Aaron Rodgers after the injury to Finley. Even ... Read More
Steeler Pride Not Only Thing Injured These Days
I didn’t have many expectations heading into this Steeler season and that’s probably a good thing in the wake of Sunday’s 16-9 disaster against the Tennessee Titans. The score makes it seem like this game was closer than it really was. Pittsburgh’s only offensive score came with 1:23 left to go in the game and the Steelers still needing an onsides recovery to have any chance. I’ve always been in the camp of people who felt that the Steelers would always have a chance in a game if Ben ... Read More

2013 Steelers season preview
Right as the next NFL season is set to officially begin, Steelers fans can either optimistically dream of Mike Tomlin, Ben Roethlisberger and friends raising a seventh Lombardi Trophy on the stage at MetLife Stadium, or they can sit anxiously and await kickoff Sunday and every other game with reservations and angst and pessimism. Both outlooks are bound to elicit conversation and there are valid arguments for either school of thought. While a Super Bowl run would be perhaps a surprise to many, ... Read More
