With 2 less than stellar performances under the 2013 Steelers’ preseason belt, doubt is starting to evolve into panic amongst the Black and Gold faithful. Calling for another 8-8 season (or worse) is the leitmotif, and this is not an entirely unfounded prediction considering the sloppy (for lack of a better term) performance on display last night at Fedex Field. With injuries racking up as quickly as Rex Grossman racked up passing yards (yes, that really did happen), there is little reason to ... Read More
Rontez Miles hoping to make the Jets roster as UDFA
While most of the publicity in New York is surrounding Geno Smith and the quarterback situation, there's a battle brewing on the other side of the ball as well. Former Cal U safety Rontez Miles, who was expected to be drafted in the 6th or 7th round, is hoping to make the Jets roster after the Jets rookie mini camp this weekend as an undrafted free agent signee. Miles has a skill set that has been particularly intriguing to the Jets coaching staff so far in mini camp. Head coach Rex Ryan has ... Read More
Eric Kush excelling during mini camp in Kansas City
When the Kansas City Chiefs selected Eric Kush in the 6th round of the NFL Draft, Kush became the highest drafted player ever from Cal U. He's been living up to that name and has shown off his skills in Kansas City already. After the first weekend of mini camp has nearly come and gone, Kush will walk away with praise and a new contract. The Chiefs have undoubtedly shown that their interest is in protecting their quarterback, whoever that may be on day one. They franchised tackle Branden ... Read More
Steelers 2013 schedule released
After an abysmal season last year, Steelers fans are hoping the team can regroup and put together a good season in 2013. The Steelers will play four games on national television, including a Thanksgiving Day game against their rivals and Super Bowl Champions, the Baltimore Ravens. That game will be on the road in Baltimore and will kickoff at 8:30 pm ET on NBC. This is the very first primetime Thanksgiving Day game for the Steelers in team history. Pittsburgh will also play Cincinnati on ... Read More
One more strike could mean Ta’amu is out
Back in October, Steelers’ rookie defensive tackle Alameda Ta’amu was arrested in the Southside of Pittsburgh for driving under the influence. That was really just the major offense that he was charged with, but he was also charged with attempting to flee, resisting arrest, and driving the wrong way down a way one street. So you’d think after that, that he would never even think of driving with alcohol around him let alone under the influence. Well think again. Just yesterday, Ta’amu ... Read More

Former Cal U QB Josh Portis signs with Seahawks
Josh Portis, a former quarterback for California University of Pittsburgh, has once again made a trek to the NFL. After two seasons in division I football, Portis transferred to Cal U in 2009. During that season he set school records in passing yards and touchdowns, throwing for 3,421 yards and 36 touchdowns. He accounted for 3,870 total yards of offense that season. His 2010 season wasn't quite as good as his 2009 season but he still managed to throw for 2,651 yards and 31 touchdowns on the ... Read More
Should Steelers take a chance on Tyrann Mathieu?
We all know that the Steelers usually stray away from those players that have red flags, and have been in prior trouble, but there is a player in this year’s draft that I think the Steelers should take a look at. Tyrann Mathieu is a player who has had his past troubles, but seems to be turning things around. You don’t have to go back very far to the last time the Steelers took a player with a red flag. Last year they took offensive tackle Mike Adams out of Ohio State who had some issues out ... Read More
Father Time and Longevity in Sports
Athletes strive each and every season to make history or break some sort of record. Year in and year out history is made and records are broken. One record that has yet to be broken, and likely never will be broken is that of Father Time. Athletes do their best to outlast Father Time, but in the end, they eventually fall short. Age catches up to everyone, but it is spotlighted a lot more by athletes. The physicality their bodies go through eventually catches up with them, and naturally so. ... Read More
End of an era for power running backs?
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there lived athletes like Earl Campbell and Jerome Bettis. These men were the definition of smash mouth football. They were known throughout the league for their bone-crushing hits on defenders who stood between them and a first down or the endzone. When hard hitting defenses dug into the trenches looking for a stop, these backs fought back by lowering their shoulders and bulldozing a path. The NFL, under commissioner Roger Goodell, has recently ... Read More
